Hello,

What is the meaning of the word “pretty” in this sentence. “It was pretty bad”

Does it mean ” it was very bad” or ” it was not that bad”??? Pls help me.

hi there,
I’m an English teacher. And I have a very very big problem that is most of my students are not motivated to study English although they’re fond of IT subject. They keep saying English is so hard to understand so they aren’t interested in it. Especially in Grammar, how could I teach them when they aren’t excited? Thanx.

@Grazyna TELL ME is not good English. In fact, it sounds very rude You could open by saying ‘David speaking’ or ‘How are you?’ or ‘How can I help?’ or some similar polite remark.

Dear Person,

I’ve been learning English for many years. Unfortunatelly in last five years I didn’t make any progress.Accually I think I forgot a lot because since 2005 I’ve been living in Italy and I don’t speak English at all. I promise myself to do all of your exercises to refresh the grammar and improve my language skills. My question is about spoken English (phone calls). It is very important for me to find the right answer and I think that only native speaker is able to respond correctly. Colleagues from my office when they pick up the phone traduce litteraly one expression from their native language. I will try to explain what I’m intending to clarify with the situation: Rings the phone. My colleague answer and his secretary tells him that there is calling Mr. David from chinese branch office. In these case my colleague usually risponds: Hi David, TELL ME. I don’t think that this is correct. Am I right? What would be the correct answer in these case? Exists any English term in these case? I’m looking forward for your response. Please let me know if I did some errors writting this e-mail.

I’m working in NPC-KSA, But when I commuicate with people I have problem with gramatical because some of used English with verb, without verb many differnces that I observed. I would like to improve my English somehow. Could you help me to get minimum skill English. Because English is only resort to communicate Internationally.

I really appreciate ur comment about our fears when we speak english..
when i´m in a group I feel confuse ..my nervous make me speak quickly and sometimes i make mistakes in grammar but the important thing is communicate our ideas but is ugly feel make mistakes we are not perfect i´ll try to be less nervous is a great mental effort ;D
